If you are able to hold this party outdoors, the decorations are very easy. Most anything can buy Spongebob, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Gary, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Jellyfish, Plankton, and Bikini lowest posters, which can be glued to cardboard (ask the local appliance store for big boxes) and you can even make cutouts, if you want. Use a very sturdy glue, such as F-26, to affix wooden spikes, and put them into the ground throughout the party area. Put kiddie pools out, and even if it is too cool to swim, you can fill the pools with sand and pails and shovels. Stake out a few sheets of clear plastic, onto which you can paint Spongebob and his friends, or affix stickers, to supply clean areas for crafts and eating. Make jellyfish from pink balloons, by blowing up a balloon, and gluing or taping long, uninflated balloons to create tentacles. String up lots of sea blue and green crepe paper streamers to blow in the wind.

Spongebob Squarepants Party Games

Have a black bag of chocolate coins, and give each guest a ziplock bag. Everybody gets a coin at the end of each game, and a warning to guard it, because Mr. Krabs might be waiting to scoop them up!

"Who Am I?" is a great game! Have pictures of Spongebob and all his friends ready. Call each guest, one at a time. Tape a Spongebob character printout on their back, allowing the other guests to see. The man with the photo on their back can ask yes and no questions, such as, "Am I yellow?" "Am I a Snail?" etc., until he can guess which character is on his back.

"The Jellyfish Stomp" is other fun game! Before inflating some of your jellyfish balloons, put small pieces of paper inside with the name of a party favor on it (like "Stickers" "sour straws"...) and when the music stops, the dancer stomps a balloon, and wins the gift inside.

Before singing happy birthday, play the Spongebob theme song (Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants!!) Then sing happy birthday, and serve cake, ice cream and seawater punch.

Seawater Punch

Blue Raspberry soft drink mix (mixed according to box directions)

1 bottle lemon lime soda

1 pint of vanilla ice cream

1 can pineapple juice

Be sure to have lots of washable markers in each child's goodie bag, and allow them to color some printed and copied coloring pages, while, one at a time, each child is allowed to have his photo taken with his beloved cardboard character, and allow them to take the photo home with them when they leave.

Nostalgic Toys - Fashion Plates and Barbie Dolls Bring Back splendid Memories

As a 30-something mother of two minute boys, I don't get to play with dolls very often. When I visit my neighbor who has two minute girls under the age of five, I walk into a pink fantasy land of glittery, girlie wonders. Barbies, princesses, baby dolls, My Pretty Ponies, Polly Pockets - it's awesome! Were I 20 years younger, you could never make me leave that house.

As a minute girl, I loved two things. Fashion Plates and Barbies. My younger sister and I played with Fashion Plates all of the time. In fact, we named each 'plate' girl head and then renamed her when we switched her outfit. We had about 30 fictitious names committed to memory. When we got bored rubbing the girls onto paper, we started writing books. There were plots, personalities, do-gooders, evil characters, etc. We spent hours and hours coloring them and laughing at their silliness. I'm pretty sure my mom still has pages upon pages of our creations stored in a dusty forgotten box somewhere. Boy, would I love to see those again!

My other childhood obsession was Barbie Dolls. My sister and I each had about 15-20 Barbies and two small suitcases full of outfits, coats, dresses, gowns and teeny tiny shoes. To save time, we referred to single pieces of clothing as "clo" - pretty innovative, huh? I probably played with Barbie Dolls until I was 13 or 14 years old. That's how easy my life used to be. My main concern was whether 'Kim' could wear her ruffled yellow dress with her matching yellow shoes. The vacuum cleaner was not a friend to Barbie's shoes.

We had winking Barbies, posing Barbies that came with a camera, Malibu Barbies, fake Barbies, Ken Dolls, fake Ken Dolls, the Barbie dog that was legitimately legitimately fluffy. The list goes on and on. We named each one and gave them a story and their own extra personality. 'Sue' was my sister's most prized Barbie and 'Kim' was mine. 'Julie' was the most hated Barbie, 'April' was the ditz and 'Star' was the unlucky stunt Barbie that got stuck in trees on more than one occasion.

We had the townhouse and the yellow corvette, jeep and the horse trailer. Ah, those were the days. We legitimately had lots of Barbie stuff, but we usually bought it ourselves with our birthday money. Aside from the toys, what I remember most is the laughter. The completely spontaneous genuine 100% heartfelt goofy loud laughter. My sister and I had some of the most times ever playing upstairs in a room covered with Barbie paraphernalia.

When I think about my boys, both of whom predominant birthdays recently, I hope and pray they have phenomenal memories of their childhood too. As grown men with children of their own, I wish for confident toys to spark a flood of appetizing memories. Because in a crazy complicated world, great childhood memories may be the best gift of all.

1. LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer studying Tablet - This is new for 2011 and is set to be the must have toy for four year old girls this year - at least when it comes to electronic studying toys. It has a large 5" screen that is a touchpad - just like the iPad. At around $100, it costs a lot less, though, so you can feel okay giving it to a four year old girl.


2. Playskool Alphie - This first-rate has been updated and modernized. The first-rate Alphie robot was cool, but the new one for 2011 has even more great studying activities for children. Not all girls are going to like the robot concept, but it is going to be a hit with some girls out there.


3. LeapFrog Scribble and Write - This is a great toy that is almost like an etch-a-sketch, but it has more studying potential. It helps petite girls with their letters and numbers both. It's not as developed as some of the other toys in this category, but the price is right and it does help children learn.


4. Vtech - InnoTab Interactive studying Tablet - This is new and the competitor to the LeapPad from LeapFrog. Reviews are still advent in around the country, but it is shaping up to be a big hit for four year old girls this year.
